As time passes our skin shows the natural, inevitable signs of aging - wrinkles, sagging, sun damage. But you can counteract those effects with several non-surgical cosmetic procedures available at our practice, including BOTOX® and injectable fillers such as collagen and Restylane® to smooth lines and wrinkles and raise sunken areas; chemical peels to reduce blemishes and scarring and produce fresh, glowing skin; and sclerotherapy for the treatment of spider and varicose veins. Ear piercing is also available at Bella Skin Institute. We make sure that your piercing is placed just where you want it.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is commonly used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of facial wrinkles. It is injected under the skin into areas surrounding the eyes, forehead and mouth to smooth crow's feet, frown and worry lines, and lines on the neck. Made from a purified protein, BOTOX® injections block nerve impulses, weakening muscles to relax wrinkles and give the face a rejuvenated look. BOTOX® may also be useful for excessive sweating.
Did you know that Dr. Anna Guanche is an expert in specialized uses for BOTOX®? With over 7 years of experience, she is able to do more than just smooth the brow, crow's feet and frown lines. She is able to provide a chemical browlift, flip downturned corners of the mouth, reduce lines on the upper lip due to pursing, and even treat excessive sweating, otherwise known as hyperhidrosis.
Dysport is an FDA-approved injection treatment used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing facial muscles in the forehead. Similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport is injected directly into the site of wrinkles to prevent the underlying muscles from contracting. Dysport injections are made from the bacterium Clostridum botulinum, the same protein used in BOTOX injections.
Xeomin® is a form of botulinum toxin type A that can be injected into the muscles just beneath the skin to reduce facial lines and wrinkles. Particularly effective in treating deep frown lines between the eyebrows, Xeomin has received FDA approval.
Like other types of botulinum treatments, Xeomin prevents muscles from contracting. However, Xeomin is different from its predecessors in that it contains no additives, which may decrease a patient's antibody reaction. If the immune system is not creating antibodies to fight it, the treatment will be much more successful.
Results of Xeomin treatment are typically evident in one week and last between three and six months.
Bella Skin Institute has been chosen by Allergan as one of the first practices to make JUVÉDERM available to you!
JUVÉDERM is an injectable gel that gently reverses many signs of aging in the face, including fine lines and wrinkles, crow's feet, thinning lips and loosening skin. It can also "plump up" the lips, sculpt the cheeks, and restore a youthful oval shape to the face. It is made with hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body that works with collagen and elastin to give volume and support to the skin. Because it is non-animal-based and highly biocompatible, no pre-treatment testing is needed. JUVÉDERM comes in three formulas optimized for the depth of the area being treated. Results last about 6-9 months and can be made to last even longer with a simple follow-up treatment a few weeks after the initial injection.
JUVÉDERM Voluma™ is a new, FDA-approved dermal filler formulated specifically to add volume to the face around the cheeks and chin. This is the only injectable gel created to provide a subtle, natural enhancement to the mid-face, addressing changes in definition that occur over time. JUVÉDERM Voluma can help restore more youthful contours by plumping up the area that so often loses volume as part of the aging process. It can also return a firmer shape to the jaw line when some softening has set in.
The active ingredient in JUVÉDERM Voluma is hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a substance naturally produced within the skin. As we get older, the levels of HA present in the skin begin to decline, resulting in a loss of volume and sunken or sagging cheeks. JUVÉDERM Voluma integrates into the existing collagen and elastin in the skin tissue to offer greater support and elasticity. This can provide a noticeable smoothing and firming to the skin and lend the facial structure more substantial definition.
Sculptra is an injectable used for the restoration of collagen and the correction of volume loss. The benefits of Sculptra are not immediately apparent; the body slowly responds to the injection by building up collagen around the area, producing fuller, younger looking skin. After a series of injections (usually three treatment sessions) the effects can last up to three years before retreatment is needed.
Is Sculptra safe?
The Sculptra material is absorbed once it has produced its regenerative effect and does not persist in the body. The active substance is poly-L-lactic acid, an extremely safe compound that has been used in dissolvable stitches for the past ten years.
Who most benefits from Sculptra?
The cosmetic effects of Sculptra are used for both smoothing out facial wrinkles of older patients but also restoring normal facial firmness to patients who have facial volume loss (hollowing of temples, cheeks) or very thin, translucent skin.
Sculptra is also an ideal choice for individuals who would like to have their skin rejuvenated but want to do so in a subtle manner. The extended time it takes for the dermis to build itself up allows for a sly transition as opposed to other methods which are apparent immediately after leaving the doctor's office.
Sculptra Aesthetic works to replace lost collagen in a series of treatments administered by a Sculptra trained physician. On average, three injection sessions are needed over a period of a few months. The number of injection sessions and the number of injections per session vary from person to person.
Sculptra Aesthetic works within the deep dermis
Within the deep dermis, your skin's structure is reinforced as Sculptra Aesthetic helps to replace lost collagen. This reinforced collagen structure provides a foundation that gradually restores the look of fullness of your shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds* that has been depleted over time. The result? Sculptra Aesthetic is different because it gradually and subtly corrects these facial wrinkles. This can provide a refined, more youthful looking appearance that can last up to two years.
Formerly known as Radience, Radiesse® is a synthetic injectable filler that reduces wrinkles, creases and scars by augmenting the body's natural collagen supply. Composed of microspheres in a biocompatible gel, Radiesse is made from the same minerals found in our bones, so it carries little risk of allergic reaction (unlike collagen) - just one of its advantages over alternative treatments. Radiesse can be used on many areas of the body; the most commonly treated are nasolabial folds, peri-oral lines, depressed scars and oral commissures.
Treatments typically take 15 minutes and require only local anesthetic. Results are visible immediately after the injection and can last for months or years, although the procedure can be repeated as often as you wish.
Dr. Guanche is one of few doctors using Radiesse for non-surgical cheek augmentation. This provides higher, fuller cheeks and restores volume to the face in all the right places. Dr. Guanche has been featured on "Ten Years Younger," LA Times, and KTLA News doing this advanced injectable procedure.
Restylane® is designed to smooth wrinkles, sculpt lips and shape facial contours. It is a clear, synthetic gel made with hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that is found throughout your body. It carries little risk of allergic reaction. The most common areas for treatment are the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows) and the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of your mouth). With its unique ability to bind with water, Restylane remains in your skin for many months.
Restylane can be used to plump the lips or just give them definition. This eliminates lines crossing the lip border and produces a more youthful, voluptuous appearance.
Belotero is the latest, most advanced form of dermal filler available today. It has a unique ability to integrate with the tissues of your skin, providing volume and a more youthful shape to your face. Belotero can reduce lines and wrinkles while enhancing your own facial contours.
As we get older, our skin's production of the substances that keep it moisturized and supple begins to slow, resulting in an increase in wrinkles and lines. But Belotero is a dermal filler that incorporates one of these natural substances, hyaluronic acid (HA), to help you achieve smoother, more youthful looking skin once again.
Dr. Guanche performs peels of all depths-from the very superficial Jessner's peel that addresses fine lines and dyspigmentation to the deepest TCA peels (35-40%) that address coarse wrinkles and acne scars.
Microdermabrasion improves mild to moderate sun damage, scarring, wrinkles and other superficial skin problems. We are using a revolutionary state-of-the-art particle free system to exfoliate the outer layer of skin and provide a fresh, glowing, younger appearance. The particles scrape away the surface layer of aging or damaged skin, which is then brushed off with the microdermabrasion vacuum tool with no need for anesthesia. Only a small amount of skin is removed, so sensitive areas such as the face, chest, neck, arms and hands can be treated. Results are comparable to a light chemical peel and should be immediately visible. Microdermabrasion is often performed in conjunction with other skin renewal procedures, such as laser treatment and chemical peels. Multiple treatments are recommended for full effect.
Sclerotherapy is the standard treatment for varicose and spider veins. A hypertonic saline is injected into the diseased vein, which then collapses and is gradually absorbed by the body. By the end of the treatment program, the veins are less visible on the skin surface. Sclerotherapy usually also relieves symptoms associated with enlarged veins and prevents further complications.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
PRP has been used for years in different realms of medicine to promote healing and collagen production as surgical sites, using a patient's own (autologous) plasma. In dermatology, we use PRP to induce collagen growth, improve acne scars, improve skin texture, fine line and wrinkles, stretch marks, and promote hair growth of the scalp. PRP is obtained by a venipuncture blood draw. The patient's blood is obtained and spun down in a centrifuge which seperates red blood cells from the platelet rich plasma by force and weight. The PRP serum obtained contains platelet rich growth factor and is placed into a syringe for re-injection into various sites of the face which need collgen production/rejuvenation.
Microneedling with Eclipse™ Pen
Microneedling is the technique where after a period of numbing with topical numbing cream, a collection of very fine micro needles are inserted into the face in certain pre-determined depths to create small microchannels/micropores in the skin which will promote healing and collagen production. The procedure of microneedling is used for overall skin rejuvenation and when coupled with PRP application allows for more beneficial results. The PRP is allowed to seep into the dermis through the microchannels created by the micropen for a delivery of platelet rich growth factor and deep collagen synthesis.
Get rid of that double-chin! Announcing KyBella®, now offered at Bella Skin Institute. Kybella is a version of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown of dietary fat. This treatment is offered as a series of between two and six sessions and permanently gets rid of fat cells.
Bella Skin Institute will be one of the initial practices offering this treatment and will be a training center for other injectors. This product should be available in late June or August 2015.
Silhouette InstaLift™ is a simple procedure to re-contour your face, lifting the deeper layers of your skin for a more youthful appearance.
Dr Guanche will discuss whether this technique is suitable for you and will create a treatment plan to ensure you achieve the results you desire. During the procedure the physician will use sutures with bidirectional cones to reposition and elevate the skin on your face. The in-office procedure typically takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. You will see immediate results and have minimal recovery time after the procedure.
Over time the sutures will naturally be absorbed by your body while stimulating production of collagen.
